Good progress: Simple Workflow

I'm still working out a few kinks with the layout. The header jumps like 5 or 10 pixels on some pages, and when I test locally, the container image doesn't show up right for some reason . . . ah, CSS.

But all in all, I have pretty much ironed out a smooth workflow for this site. Just so you'll know, I'm using Tinderbox to generate content dynamically. The next step will be to start pulling graphics into it and getting them to land in styles correctly when Tinderbox spits our notes out to HTML.

Until I can get that working correctly, I will use DreamWeaver, the next step in the workflow. Here, I can do some mechanical touchup for things that Tinderbox doesn't do so well or knowingly does not support. For example, high res images . . . I would replace the crunched down ones Tinderbox makes with better ones in DreamWeaver. Also, Tinderbox doesn't make FLASH animation or photo galleries. I could probably include them somehow, but it just makes more sense to do that sort of thing in with the Adobe software armada.

Rambling a little here, but the last step in the workflow would be Coda by Panic, a high powered FTP and web development tool. I like DreamWeaver's security features, but it just takes so long to "unlock" a page. And it's preview is great, but still not the real thing. So in those last stages, it's annoying to upload a page, find a link is not set right, then have to download it again. And Coda really is a piece of sweet software. I spent the money on it, so naturally I want to find a way to tie it closer into the overall workflow.

There might be a better way to do all this, but maybe I'm just too simple.

Going Live

Well, the site has been up for a while, but I didn't really publicize it. Not everything is quite in line, still need to work out some style issues, it looks like a couple pages aren't picking up the right CSS file for some obscure reason . . . but I've got this workflow somewhat ironed out now, so I can make more consistent minor upgrades with little effort (thank you, God), and my family has been pestering me to get on Face Book. Not really my cup of tea. But I _have_ been working on this web site to help family in the States keep up with what's happening in the World of Wrenns in Japan. And I guess if everybody is looking at Face Book, it might not be a bad idea to links there when I make updates here . . .

. . . By the way, if anybody knows that happens to lead to instant banning or blindness or something, please let me know.

In a nutshell, the paint's not dry, but the boat seems at least watertight. So we're letting her sail.
